What we believe and what we practice in the church must be determined by some standard of authority. It is by the authority of God, and God alone, that we do what we do.
A dictionary definition of the word paradox is “a statement that seems to contradict itself but may nonetheless be true.” Scripture often uses this concept to teach us some great truths.
Paul claims to have learned the secret to contentment; what is the secret and how may we learn it?
It takes all of us working together. It includes our choice of friends, having an “accountability partner” for specific struggles, and involvement with church functions. We have to build each other up with encouragement, instruction and correction.
What does spiritual maturity look like and how do you develop it? Offshoots include: growing through mistakes, knowledge and discernment, dealing with persecution, overcoming temptations and enduring tragedy.
Focus on the decline of our moral code. Include a look at what our society places importance on as well as what distractions individuals allow in their lives. Discuss how we are to be different than the world.
Each of us loves to have important roles to play in life. We have the opportunity to be a messenger for the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
As we approach possible additions to our eldership, it is good for us to know, understand and remember our responsibility and relationship as sheep to our shepherds.
